BAGHDAD - Gunfire killed four policemen at a checkpoint near the Hai Al-Adil highway in a western Baghdad

BAGHDAD - A leading figure in Baghdad's Journalists' Union, Muhammed Haroon, was shot dead in eastern Baghdad, his family said.

BAGHDAD - Three Iraqi police were killed and two injured when their patrol was ambushed in the Al-Adil district of western Baghdad, the interior ministry said.

BAGHDAD - Two Iraqi police commandos were killed and three wounded when security forces clashed with insurgents in the Ghazaliya district in western Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen shot and killed Hakim Mirza, a municipal director, and his driver, in the Dora neighborhood, and Muhsin Chitheer in front of his home in the al-I'alam area, police said. Chitheer was a lieutenant colonel in the Iraqi army that U.S. forces disbanded after invading in 2003.

FALLUJA - In Falluja, in the Sunni province of Anbar west of the capital, two Iraqi soldiers were killed and two wounded by a roadside bomb, an army officer said.

BAGHDAD - Hakim Mirza, an engineer working for a government ministry, was shot dead with his driver in an attack in Baghdad, the Labour and Social Affairs ministry said.

ISKANDARIYA - One U.S. soldier was killed and two wounded by an improvised explosive device that hit their patrol near Iskandariya, south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

ISKANDARIYA - Nine gunmen killed 6 Shiite factory workers.

BAGHDAD - Three election commission officials were shot and killed on the outskirts of the capital in Abu Ghraib, as they drove home after another round of counting ballots from last weekend's constitutional referendum, police said.

BAQOUBA - Gunmen shot and killed two men at a gas station near Baqouba, 35 miles northeast of Baghdad, police said.

BASRA - A British soldier also was killed by a roadside bomb late Tuesday night in the southern region of Basra,
