motive

George Galloway has called the allegations against him a
"revenge attack" from a "lickspittle right-wing senator".
George Galloway has poured scorn on senators
who quizzed him over his financial links with Saddam, he denied
them all and ridiculed his accusers.
But now they have returned to haunt him with a paper trail that
lands money in the accounts of his business associate and his
then wife.

Prosecute me for perjury he cries, and they may: 15 years if
guilty.
The report by the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations says
the Respect MP personally gained through the oil-for-food
programme under Saddam Hussein, that his wife received thousands
of pounds from the scheme, and that Mr Galloway gave false
statements under oath when he went in front of the committee in
May.
The report has been sent to the US justice department, and if Mr
Galloway is charged with perjury, he could face five years in
prison.
Earlier, the Respect MP called on the US Senate Committee to
charge him with perjury if they have evidence to prove his
alleged involvement in the affair.
The US Republican Senator, Norm Coleman, says his committee has
discovered £85,000 in Iraqi oil money in Mr Galloway's estranged
wife's bank account.
But Mr Galloway repeated denials that he had ever received any
oil cash.
The last time George Galloway locked horns with the US Senate
the Bethnal Green MP wrote a book about it.
A paper trail, they allege, exists showing payments from Saddam
Hussein's ministries to those close to Mr Galloway.
The Senate's report claims that Mr Galloway lied to them back in
May when he defended himself against similar claims.
