Whistleblower Exposes
Bush Officials Traded Abramoff Favors
Wayne Smith, a Sioux whose grandfather was
an Indian Chief, was hired by the Bush Administration at the
Bureau of Indian Affairs where he was in charge of Indian
Gaming. Smith was not prepared for the "raw political
opportunism" that he witnessed as a member of the Bush
Administration.
He says, "I had lobbyist flat tell me that it was 'out time
to make some money in Indian gaming -- the Indian arena --
we worked hard to get this president elected and we expected
to be rewarded for it' -- to make a killing inside the BIA
[Bureau of Indian Affairs]." Jack Abramoff and other
lobbyists redefined "access and influence" inside this
Administration. Smith blows the whistle on officials
described as Abramoff's 'point man' inside the Department of
the Interior.
