08/09/06 "Reuters" -- -- *BAGHDAD - Almost 2,000 bodies were taken
Baghdad's morgue in July, the highest tally since the bombing of a Shi'ite shrine in February sparked an explosion of sectarian
violence. Morgue assistant manager Doctor Abdul Razzaq al-Obaidi
said about 90 percent had died violently.
*HABANIYA - Three policemen were killed and another seven wounded
when a suicide car bomber rammed his car into a police station in
the former tourist area of Habaniya, 85 km (51 miles) west of
Baghdad, local police said.
BAGHDAD - The U.S. military arrested four Iraqi men suspected of
being involved in the abduction of American journalist Jill Carroll,
Major General William Caldwell, the chief U.S. military spokesman in
Iraq told a news briefing.
BAGHDAD - The U.S. and Iraqi military conducted operations against
11 death squads last week, 10 of them in Baghdad, and found 222
roadside bombs, Caldwell said.
KIRKUK - Iraqi police said they arrested eight insurgents, including
five members of al-Qaeda in Iraq in Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north
of Baghdad.

all were killed by gunshots, police said.

BAQUBA - Five people were killed and 20 wounded overnight on Tuesday
when a rocket hit a three-storey building in the religiously mixed
city of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, an explosives
expert in the police said. The building collapsed and witnesses said
more may be trapped in the rubble.
KIRKUK - Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded by a roadside bomb beside
their patrol on the main road between Hawija and Kirkuk, police
said.

bomb near their car in the main road between Hawija and Kirkuk,

targeting a U.S. patrol in east Baghdad, police said.
BASRA - Gunmen killed Army Colonel Qasim Abdul Qadir on his way to
work in Basra, Iraq's second city, 550 km (340 miles) south of
Baghdad, the army said.
BAIJI - Gunmen abducted two Iraqi contractors working with the U.S.
military on Tuesday in the oil refinery city of Baiji, 180 km (112
miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
DOUR - The police found the bodies of two people shot in the head
and chest on Tuesday in the small town of Dour, near Tikrit, 175 km
(110 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
