 Mirror,
Mirror, On The Wall, Who Is The Most Powerful Of All? A
Readers Commentary: 03/18/03 Walter Theriault
The greatest day of George Bush's life (in his own mind)
will probably arrive on Thursday. This is most likely the day that this
"empty vessel" (this fitting appellation is by someone
else, whose name
escapes me) will puff out his chest and order the deaths of thousands
upon thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq. (on top of the tens of
thousands that died and are still dying from his father's war) Oh the
glory, oh the greatness of it all ... think about it people, think what
it must be like to have that much power concentrated in your own hands,
it must be awesome, it must be glorious!
Just think about it, I mean, "really" think about it.
Visualize Mr. Bush as he looks at his reflection in the mirror. What he
sees in the mirror is not the same as you and I see when we look at him
on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. I don't suppose that I should speak for
you, but what I see
is an "empty vessel," a "cruel" empty vessel. Some
have called him a "Cowboy," but this is not fitting at all. I
don't see a cowboy ... cowboys are usually hard working honest people
with feelings. They even have the welfare of the cows in mind. George
has only his own welfare and that of the circle of despots that advise
him, in his otherwise empty mind.
There was a time when George saw himself for what he is, a "media
creation that has not done any thing, except work for my father."
(those are his own words) But now the image of himself that he sees in
the mirror has really changed; and why wouldn't it? Here he is now, a
Supreme Court appointed President, and Commander-In-Chief of the most
powerful killing machine on earth. He's probably thinking (as he looks
at his reflection in the mirror) "it didn't matter in the year 2000
what
the people wanted, all those nice Supreme Court Justices (appointed by
my dad) didn't care, they just appointed me as the ruler of the world.
If public opinion had really mattered, I wouldn't be able to
do this truly glorious thing that I'm appointed by God Himself to
do ... All that glory would have gone to Al Gore. If this doesn't
prove that I'm God's emissary on earth ... what does?
Oh the power of the mind! From the reality of a very small, cruel, empty
vessel standing in front of that mirror is reflected an image of a
brave, glorious and born-again Christian that has the God Given Mission
(in his own mind) to go forth in the Name of His only Begotten Son and
murder thousands upon thousands of innocent human beings.
My only hope for George and his cohorts is that the One whose Name they
use will find the same compassion for them (which they are completely
bereft of) as He had for those that nailed Him to the Cross and say:
"Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Forgiveness for George may be forthcoming because I truly believe that
he doesn't know what he's doing. But those that advise him, and those in
the media who spew forth the lies, deception and the cover-up of
atrocities that are going to be committed in Iraq will not be so
fortunate; for they know what they are doing.
May God help us all; but especially the children in Iraq.
