Bush Liars At the Pentagon and Do Nothing Democrats

By Sam Hamod, Ph.D.

06/11/03: (Today's Alternative News) Yes, just after 9/11, President Bush sent his friend, Feith, over to the Pentagon to set up an “intelligence team” to run parallel to the real experts at the Pentagon Intelligence Group. The Feith group was made up of ideologues, not real experts in intelligence. Yet, not a squawk was heard from either side of the aisle in Congress. To this day, none, other than pro-peace, anti-war, and groups concerned with ethical government, have spoken out in a strong way about this strange and dangerous precedent; a precedent that helped lead the American public and media to back a very destructive war that is taking more American and Iraqi lives every day.

As you are all aware by now, it was this team headed by Feith, that was made up of people who were not experts in intelligence or espionage that kept saying there were “weapons of mass destruction, including atomic weapons in Iraq.” The professional Pentagon intelligence group, kept denying it. But who did the media, the Democrats and the public hear from—the Feith ideologue filled “intelligence group.” That’s one of the reasons there is now this big flap about what the Pentagon Intelligence actually said to the president and what was used as “proof of WMD in Iraq.” Those of us who have investigated this now can show there were actually two “intelligence groups” at the Penatagon, the real intelligence experts and the war-mongering non-experts.

To this day, the do-nothing Democrats, who are more worried about what may be false popularity numbers for Bush, have done nothing about this in any big way. They have not called for impeachment on a large scale; they have not called for an impartial inquiry into the Pentagon and the roles of the Feith team, Wolfowitz or the influence of the “Defense Policy Board” (formerly headed by Richard Perle—an non-publicly elected group and a group not appointed by Congress—but only self-elected lobbyists made up primarily of far right neo-cons).

Thus, I, as an American citizen, am upset that there is no government accountability for these illegal, or at the least, unethical groups running our foreign policy. I also want to know why none of the foreign policy experts in the State Department, and retired ambassadors to the Middle East aside from the pro-zionist Indyk, have been shut out of congressional hearings, shut out of the media (such people as Chaz Freeman, Richard Freeman, ambassadors Neumann and others too long to list at this time) and even shut out by the alleged head of the State Department, Colin Powell.

As most of us who have worked in the federal government understand it, the State Department is supposed to be handling and shaping foreign policy; the Pentagon is to aid in the supplementation of that policy and is to protect our nation—not make foreign policy and then pre-emptively, aggressively attack other nations. In this case, we now have proof of what many intelligent and informed people about the Middle East knew, and what Bush and Blair actually did know as well—there were no atomic weapons in Iraq, there were no tubes to fire long distance missiles and there were no weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological etc.).

Hans Blix and his team of professional inspectors kept saying this, but wanted a few more months to check things out—but Bush wanted to jump in and show them how easy it was to find those WMD. As we all know by now, they did not, nor do they exist; Rumsfeld, even Wolfowitz and even Jack Straw of Britain have come within a half-an-inch of saying they will never find the WMD (the obvious conclusion is that they were not there in the first place and that this whole thing has been a lie and a total sham to justify a cruel and possibly endless quagmire of a war).
In addition, Mohammad El Baradi of the International Atomic Commission said the same thing, “There are no atomic weapons in Iraq.” But this, as with Blix’s comments, were ignored and the Bush team acted as El Baradi and his team were lying.. To this day, the US/UK teams have found no evidence of active or even residual atomic testing or manufacturing in Iraq; thus, this “proof “ the Bush/Feith team said they had has also been shown to be a lie.

One of the ironies of this situation is that the Democrats and allegedly honest Republicans, who all profess to be interested in the welfare of our country, are basically doing nothing. The Democratic presidential candidates are about as effective as Al Gore was in his campaign; they are more concerned with their candidacy than they are with the American people and the lies and deaths caused by GW Bush and his team of liars. How has our democracy come to such a place. It was bad enough when the liar Bill Clinton and his do-nothing VP Gore were in office; it has gotten worse with GW Bush and his even bigger team of liars. What has happened that we have gone from bad to worse, from liar to bigger liar ? Has America run out of honest leaders in either the Democrat or Republican parties? We all know that Ralph Nader and Pat Buchannan were kept out of the “presidential debates” because both would have wiped the floor clean with Bush and Gore. Nader has done more in his life for the common American citizen than Gore and Bush put together. Buchannan, though I disagree with him on abortion totally, at least was honest enough to stick by his orthodox Catholic position on the matter and say who he was and is—but the hidden agenda against him was that was for spending money in America, not in Israel—and that cost him dearly.

So today, we know the truth about the alleged “pentagon intelligence”—the false reports were coming from non-expert ideologues planted in the Pentagon by Bush’s man, Feith, and aided by Rumsfeld, Cheney and Wolfowitiz (though Wolfowitz was allegedly an assistant secretary under Colin Powell of the State Department!).

Then we have disclosures that Cheney was often putting pressure on the CIA to lie; but at least they kept telling the truth, that they knew of no WMD in Iraq. Even into the war, the CIA kept their position clear. But now, the Bush team is trying to blame the CIA for false and misleading intelligence—when it was the Bush team that was doing it all along.

And the Democrats, are they defending the CIA? No, they seem to be in some other world allowing this to go on while they chitter and chatter, eating up tax payer money, eating up valuable and precious time while they may still hold Bush and his cronies responsible for these misdeeds. It is time both the Democrats and the ethical Republicans (if any are left—no pun intended) to stand up and say, “Bush and his team are liars and should be impeached and possibly even prosecuted for the deaths of American, British and Iraqis by their illegally, lie-inspired, invasion of Iraq.”

Let’s see if there are more than two or three honest men in the U.S. Government—a few honest men beside Byrd and Kucinich, and women aside from Lee, McKinney and Waters.
