Kuwait City, September 6
Two surface-to-air missiles were fired at a US military C-141 transport plane on Saturday as it was taking off from Baghdad airport but missed, a senior US defence official said.
The missiles were fired early in the day, hours before US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld departed from the airport at the end of a three-day visit, his aide Lawrence DiRita said.
"This morning two SAMs were fired at a C-141 taking off from Baghdad airport," he said.
