-- Spiegel Online has received information that a multi lateral special "anti terror" unit is being deployed in Iraq today for the first time. 550 soldiers of the "Anti Terror Brigade" are being deployed throughout the entire country in order to fend off Islamist attacks.
Cairo - The force is over 2,000 men strong. It has send soldiers into 28 positions in Baghdad and to 110 other locations in Iraq in order to hold off the expected wave of explosions and suicide attacks during and after the election.
The undercover "election protectors" have been training since the end of January under American and British command close to the Iraqi port city of Basra, and have been trained in special courses, among others, by Algerian and Pakistani specialists.
One third of this new force are Ex-Iraqi security troops who had been given special honors and decorations by Saddam
Hussen.
