Where is the apology
from Israel, from Sharon
for the bulldozer
that wantonly ran down, this
Rachel Corrie
Where is the apology
from the United States, from Bush,
from our Congress, from our
Senate
for allowing an Israeli bulldozer
to run down
without cause or reason, this
Rachel Corrie
Where is the man or woman
who would stand up at the NY Times,
the Washington Post or the LA Times to
condemn Sharon and Bush
for this outrageous
bulldozing the life
out of this idealistic young woman
who only went for peace
and to help children and the homeless, this
Rachel Corrie
Where is the moral outrage
among all these "born again Christians"
who wouldn't know Christ if he
hugged them in the street
or told him who he was, that he
Jesus Christ
was alive in this little girl, this
teenager, this girl who stood up
and told the bulldozer to stop
to stop crushing children and their homes,
to stop this bulldozer that ran her down
and crushed her into the ground,
why do they turn their Judas faces away,
what she was doing,
this is what Jesus was all about,
Jesus was in this young girl, this
Rachel Corrie
Sam Hamod is a poet who was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in poetry; has taught at Iowa Writers Workshop, Princeton and Michigan; has been upset for the past few years that none of our alleged moralists in the Congress or Senate has gotten our government or the Israelis to apologize for the wanton and unnecessary murder of the idealistic young, Rachel Corrie.
