Anderson catches fire

- - Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson last night urged Australians to find "a new relationship with God", at a meeting of around 1000 Christians in Hoppers Crossing.

He was addressing the second annual National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held at the Southland Christian Centre. The event was organised by the Catch the Fire Ministry.

Pastor Danny Nalliah, who hosted the evening, was an unsuccessful Senate candidate for Family First last October. He was also one of two Catch the Fire members who last year became the first Victorians to be prosecuted under the state's Racial and Religious Tolerance Act. They were found to have vilified Muslims at a seminar in 2002.

Mr Anderson told the gathering that his "Christian creed" helped to guide his decisions, and called on more Australians to find their faith. "Our self-centredness has broken our link with God," Mr Anderson said.
