REPORTER: Sophie McNeill
Kevin has spent nearly 10 months as an embedded journalist
in Iraq. But he'd never before captured anything like this. He
is now.
KEVIN SITES: I wish I hadn't been there. I wish I hadn't
been in that spot at that time just because I knew the
responsibility that I would have at that moment on.
GEORGE NEGUS: Since Kevin Sites shot that harrowing
footage, he's apparently been subjected to an ongoing hate
campaign in the US. That said, just a few days ago, there was
a major development on the issue. The Pentagon announced that
the marine who fired the fatal shot will not face any charges.
An inquiry by the Marine Corp has found that he acted within
the rules of engagement and had exercised his inherent right
of self defence. According to the investigation, Kevin Sites'
video-tape of the shooting showed that the three men shot by
the marine in question, posed, quote-unquote "a hostile
threat."
