Israel angry with Iran's growing regional influence - spokesman

06/27/05 "MC" - - Tehran, 26 June: Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said here Sunday [26 June] the Zionist regime is furious with Iran's growing development, economic growth and influence on regional and Muslim states.
Talking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference, Asefi said that Israel is unhappy with massive turnout of the Iranian nation in the ninth presidential election. Magnificent turnout has been backlash to Israeli propaganda campaign ahead of election.
"We are not surprised by such statements and expressions while it has been clear to all that Israel is the main factor behind threats to the region," he said.
What is important for a government, he said, is to move powerfully to meet national interests.
The spokesman assessed President Mohammad Khatami's policy on Palestine as very good, saying the Iran has always had a very brilliant policy on Palestine since the Islamic Republic's establishment in 1979.
The Iranian nation were the most important supporter of the Palestinians, he said, adding governments cannot be separated.
Asked whether head of Iran's nuclear negotiating delegation would change in the new government, Asefi said negotiators are not determined by a single or two figures. They are appointed through extensive consultations at a high level.
