US Offers to Withdraw Troops From Afghanistan

By Mohammed Ismail

December 19, 2018 "Information Clearing House"    America is ready to set out a plan to withdraw from Afghanistan in return for a six-month Taliban ceasefire as Washington presses for an end to the 17-year conflict.

Sources close to the insurgents say that the proposal, which would see the US retain three military bases in Afghanistan, was made as the latest round of dialogue between American and Taliban officials entered a third day in Abu Dhabi.

The US is pushing for a ceasefire before Afghan presidential elections in April but the Taliban is resistant as splits emerge in the Islamist movement over whether to make concessions.

The Taliban wants President Ghani replaced with a caretaker government.
