God wanted Donald Trump to be United States president: White House press secretary

By ABC Australia

January 31, 2019 "Information Clearing House"   God wanted Donald Trump to be United States president and that is why he supports things important to people of faith, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has told a US religious broadcaster.

In an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network, Ms Sanders said Mr Trump was the most conservative president in US history.

"I think God calls all of us to fill different roles at different times and I think that he wanted Donald Trump to become president and that's why he is there," she said.

In the 20-minute interview, Ms Sanders was asked about how the White House viewed Nancy Pelosi's comment that the border wall with Mexico was immoral.

She said it was hard to take a morality lecture from Democrats.

"The idea that protecting the people of your country, which is the fundamental duty of being president of the United States, is somehow immoral is a ridiculous charge," she said.

"The evidence is so contrary to that comment."

Ms Sanders also said media outlets like CNN and NBC only wanted to attack Mr Trump.

He was, she said, the "most accessible" president and spent more time with media than any of his predecessors.

"The idea that we're not engaging and they're not getting information is just not true," she said.

"They just want to complain and attack this administration and this President and they don't want to cover all of the success because that's not good for the narrative that they're trying to drive."

As she talked about loving her job and working for the Trump administration, Ms Sanders said Mr Trump would have "tremendous success" throughout the remainder of this term.

She also believes he will retain office following the next election.

While evangelicals mainly support Mr Trump, some are concerned about his policy in Syria and what would happen if he ordered soldiers home.

"We support Christians, we support the Kurds, [Mr Trump] has made that clear to Turkey, he's made that clear publicly on a number of fronts," Ms Sanders said.
